Daniels directs flags flown at half-staff in Indiana

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana Mitch Daniels has directed that flags throughout the state and at the State House be lowered to half-staff until sunset Tuesday in memory of 27 people, including 20 children, who were killed by a gunman in Connecticut.

Also in the wake of that tragedy, Indianapolis Public Schools officials are asking parents to reassure their children that they are safe in school. Superintendent Eugene White issued a statement Friday asking parents to talk to let their children know that their bus driver, teacher, principal and other adults at their school are there to keep them safe.

The school district also sought to reassure parents, issuing a release saying that schools are locked and require any visitor to enter the school through the main office.
