INDIANAPOLIS -

The Warren Township school district celebrated the news it would receive $28.5 million in federal funding.

The Indianapolis schools made the announcement earlier this week it won the money through the Race to the Top competition.

Warren was one of the 16 districts across the US to win. On Friday, it celebrated this win with the people responsible. Among those in attendance was Congressman Andre Carson.

"All of you at the Warren Township schools, I congratulate you on being the first Indiana school district to win this wonderful award," said Rep. Carson (D-IN).

Race To The Top is a $4.35 billion Department of Education contest started in 2009 that has inspired dramatic education reform nationwide.
