Johnson County repeals smoking ban

Posted: Updated:
JOHNSON COUNTY -

Johnson County has voted to repeal its smoking ban. County Commissioner Ron West says the council believes the ban needs certain changes to the way it was originally written.

West, who represents District 3, says the council will re-write the ban after January 1, 2013 and then pass the new ordinance between January and April.

He noted the reason for the change is that the council feels they need to do more research and make the ordinance more acceptable.

The ban, passed last month, was one of the area's strictest, prohibiting smoking in all bars, restaurants, hotels, businesses and private clubs.
