Outlandish holiday display in Greenwood

Posted: Updated:
GREENWOOD -

Some holiday enthusiasts have taken the song lyrics "deck the halls with boughs of holly" to a whole new level. When it comes to decorating the home for Christmas, a few strings of lights on the outside and a tree or two inside just doesn't cut it for those people.

For them, the brighter-- the better.

In Greenwood, a ten-year tradition is burning brightly at the home of Dennis Guyette.

On Halloween night, Guyette pulls 126 totes out his attic and begins a 30-day process of setting up 73 Christmas trees in and outside his home.  On the trees go 31-thousand ornaments and 40-thousand lights.

Guyette says he doesn't heat his house because the lights keep it at a toasty 85 degrees.

The process takes approximately six hours a day to set up Guyette's display.

In the off-season, he shops garage sales and flea markets for "anything Christmas."

Visitors can see Guyette's display from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. nightly at 632 Locust Grove Lane in Greenwood, which is just south of Stop 18 and just east of Johnson County 100 West.
