Greensburg man gets 60 years in boy's 2011 killing

GREENSBURG -

A southeastern Indiana man who pleaded guilty to murder in the beating death of his girlfriend's 12-year-old son has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.

Thirty-year-old Waldo L. Jones of Greensburg told the Decatur County Court on Wednesday he felt remorse over Devin Lee Parsons' June 2011 killing.

Jones pleaded guilty in October, fours month after Devin's mother, Tasha Parson, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for her role in the killing.

Authorities say Jones and Parsons beat the boy after he hid illegally obtained prescription painkillers from the two adults.

The Indianapolis Star reports child welfare workers received at least 19 reports alleging abuse or neglect of Devin and his siblings before the boy died, but officials did not remove the children from the house.
