INDIANAPOLIS -

A police pursuit led to a crash that is backing up traffic on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

The chase started shortly after 3 p.m. near 86th Street and Harcourt Road. An off-duty officer tried to stop a reckless driver, when on-duty units picked up the pursuit. That chase ended with a crash on I-465 southbound at 71st Street.

The crash happened in the left shoulder of southbound I-465.

Two people in a car that was struck in the crash suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Speeds topped 90 miles per hour during the chase.

Two women were taken into custody and a third person was arrested for resisting officers at the scene.

A second, apparently unrelated chase happened around the same time near 29th Street and Harding Street. That pursuit ended when the suspect bailed from the vehicle near I-65 northbound and 56th Street.

The suspect in the second chase fled to an apartment complex, but was arrested. It is not known why the suspect fled police.
