Jeffersonville aims to shut down pain clinic

Posted: Updated:

The attorney for a southern Indiana city says officials will seek to shut down a pain medication clinic since a state board has suspended the license of its doctor.

Jeffersonville city attorney Les Merkley says the city will go to court against the Clark County Wellness Center if it isn't closed within a couple weeks. Merkley tells The News and Tribune that the clinic no longer meets city zoning rules since Dr. Lea Marlow's medical license is suspended.

The Indiana Medical Licensing Board suspended Marlow's license on Thursday until the board's Jan. 24 meeting.

The state attorney general's office says 95 percent of Marlow's nearly 3,500 patients receiving prescriptions through the cash-only clinic this year have obtained Oxycodone.

Telephone calls to the clinic rang unanswered Friday.
