Trisha Yearwood: cooking up a hit

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE -

Trisha Yearwood says her TV cooking show is inspired, in part, by her childhood.

She says she remembers their family had dinner together each night - even though both her mom and dad worked. Fitting cooking into a busy lifestyle is the theme behind "Trisha's Southern Kitchen," now in its second season on Food Network.

She wants to show you can make tasty, simple meals in about the time it takes to load up the family car and head to a restaurant or take-out joint.

And she says cooking shouldn't be just for moms with kids. Yearwood believes both boys and girls should learn to handle themselves in the kitchen - because "to be able to cook for yourself is a great thing to know."

Trisha's Southern Kitchen airs on Saturdays.
