The city has reached an agreement with police and firefighters over salary and benefits for the upcoming year.
The agreement in principle covers salary and benefits for police officers and firefighters, which were reopened as permitted in the existing contract, due to lack of funds being available for the previously agreed to salary and benefit levels.
"The City took the very difficult but necessary step of reopening the salary and benefit sections of these contracts due to the severe strains on the city's current budget," said Mayor Greg Ballard in a release. "I want to personally thank the members of my team and the FOP and Local 416 who bargained in good faith and reached this new agreement in a timely and responsible manner."
The agreement provides a three-percent increase in salary for all eligible officers and firefighters beginning July 1. It will also freeze out-of-pocket insurance costs for members until July 1.
The city says the estimated budget impact of the agreement will be $3.5 million for 2013.
The agreement is pending a ratification vote by members of the FOP and Local 416.
