TAYLORSVILLE -

A semi trailer accident has closed part of Interstate 65 near Taylorsville.

The right lane of the northbound lanes of the interstate is closed at the 79 mile marker. State police say no traffic is allowed to enter the highway at Exit 76 (Taylorsville). Traffic can exit at that location, but cannot re-enter the northbound lanes of the highway.

Police say the semi's left front tire fell off, causing the truck to lose control and travel off the right side of the roadway and down an embankment.

The driver of the semi, 53-year-old Stevie Mack of Louisville, was able to free himself from the wreckage and climb back to the interstate. Witnesses and good Samaritans at the scene stopped and were able to help Mack's passenger, 34-year-old Lakisha Todd of Louisville, free herself from the crash.

Both Mack and Todd suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say traffic in the area is expected to be closed until at least 7 pm. Back-up from the crash extends about five miles.
