Arson fires have cost Indianapolis residents over $6 million so far in 2012, according to the latest statistics from the Indianapolis Fire Department.

IFD released figures for 2012 on Thursday. So far this year, a total of 392 arsons have been reported, with the largest number - 101 - occurring in vacant homes.

IFD says that 93 occupied homes were investigated for fires which included arson, juvenile fire settings (over 50 percent), "arson for profit" (where a recently vacated home was determined to have had an arson fire) or some sort of domestic issue inside the home.

The largest number of arsons occurred in the northeast Indianapolis Metro Police district, with 144.

In addition, 84 vehicle arsons were reported for 2012.
