The Indianapolis 500 does not start without Jim Nabors and the Pacers don't advance in the NBA Playoffs without hearing at least one "boom baby" from Slick Leonard. Some traditions you just don't mess
The last time the Pacers played on race day was 2004. It will happen again Sunday, opening the possibilities for fans to see both.  They might even get tickets to both for $100 total.
INDIANAPOLIS -

A woman and her young grandchildren escaped from a house fire on the Indianapolis west side, but the family's litter of Rottweiler puppies died in the fire.

It happened in the 3100 block of Eagledale Drive a little before 1:00 pm Thursday afternoon.

Jacqueline Bell told firefighters she was watching her one- and three-year-old grandchildren in her daughter's rental home when the fire broke out. Bell said the lights in the back bedroom had been flickering that morning.

Bell said she smelled something funny and discovered smoke in the back bedroom. She managed to get the children and the dog, Sadie, out of the house, but she did not have time to get the 12 puppies out of their crate.

When Indianapolis firefighters arrived, there was fire and smoke coming from the home. IFD, along with firefighters from the Speedway Fire Department, made an aggressive interior attack on the fire, but the puppies could not be saved.

The fire was under control in about 20 minutes and damage is estimated at $60,000.

The family is working with IFD Victim's Assistance to find temporary housing.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
