COLUMBUS -

A Columbus man faces charges in the death of a 19-month-old boy.

Police arrested Thomas W. Gorski, 30, on Wednesday. He faces a preliminary charge of neglect of a dependent resulting in death, a Class A felony.

The boy's mother called 911 Sunday night to report that her son, Evan McCue, was unresponsive and lifeless. The child was pronounced dead at Columbus Regional Hospital. The autopsy found that Evan died from a head injury.

According to police, Gorski is not Evan's father, but he lived at the home with the boy's mother.

Over 25 people have been interviewed and detectives have obtained 12 search warrants as part of the investigation.

Columbus Police Detective Alan Hayes is leading the investigation. Police are working with the Bartholomew County Prosecutor's Office, Coroner and Sheriff's Department, the Indiana State Police, and Child Protective Services.

Gorski is being held at the Bartholomew County Jail on the preliminary charge pending formal charges.
