Deer cull in Northern Indiana delayed until judge can rule

Posted: Updated:
OGDEN DUNES -

An Indiana Department of Natural Resources administrative law judge is scheduled to decide next month whether a town along Indiana's Lake Michigan shore can proceed with a planned deer cull.

The Post-Tribune reports the cull in the northern Indiana town of Ogden Dunes has been delayed because 22 residents have protested. They've filed a petition saying the permit was issued based on erroneous statements on the conditions related to the presence of deer in the town about 10 miles east of Gary.

The cull was scheduled to begin Monday. A hearing now is scheduled for Dec. 6. It has been contentious topic since the Town Council first applied for a permit last year.
