INDIANAPOLIS -

A crash between a semi-trailer and INDOT dump truck backed up traffic on southbound I-465 just south of Brookville Road early Wednesday morning.

The driver of the semi, 40-year-old David Ketchem, was entrapped briefly, but pulled out shortly after 2:45 a.m. and taken to IU Health-Methodist Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The INDOT workers in the dump truck - 58-year-old Terry Starks and 53-year-old Mark Cleary - were also taken to St. Francis Hospital complaining of pain.

A preliminary investigation by State Police determined that the INDOT workers were performing construction maintenance at the 48 mile marker of southbound I-465 and had the right and middle lanes closed.

Ketchem was driving in the second closed lane and failed to move over, hitting the rear of the dump truck, which in turn struck the trailer being pulled by a pickup truck. Ketchem's semi-tractor trailer continued south and struck another INDOT trailer hauling lighting equipment.

During the crash, the semi-tractor's saddle tank ruptured, causing a diesel fuel spill that the Indianapolis Fire Department Haz-Mat team cleared.

The crash is still under investigation; however troopers do not suspect alcohol as a contributing factor.

Traffic was totally stopped at Brookville Road while emergency crews worked at the scene.  But traffic is once again moving normally through the area.
