MONTGOMERY COUNTY -

Indiana State Police arrested a Brownsburg man suspected of murder in Montgomery County.

Matthew Hickman was arrested at his Brownsburg home for murder and aggravated battery and taken to jail.

The body of Mark Welch, 51, was discovered Monday night at a home near Darlington in Montgomery County. Police say Welch lived at the home where the shooting occurred.

It happened in the 2600 block of North 950 East near Darlington. Authorities say Hickman left the murder scene in a pickup truck.

Police got a call that someone had been beaten with a gun, but when officers got on the scene, they say the victim had been shot.

Welch's family has been notified of his death, and an autopsy will be conducted this week.

The investigation is ongoing.
