Andrew W.K. canceled in Bahrain

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

The U.S. State Department has had second thoughts about sending a party-crazed rock singer famous for having a bloody face to Bahrain as a cultural ambassador.

Andrew W.K. had been invited by the U.S. Embassy in Bahrain to visit. He says the purpose of his visit was to promote "partying and world peace."

A State Department spokeswoman says the invitation has been rescinded because Andrew W.K. is an inappropriate choice in a conservative Muslim kingdom.
