Demolishing Evansville's shuttered Roberts Stadium and preparing the site for a new park will cost the city about $200,000 less than originally expected.
The Evansville Board of Park Commissioners has unanimously approved a change order reducing the original $958,750 contract awarded to Klenck Co. of Evansville to $730,450.
City Parks Director Denise Johnson tells the Evansville Courier & Press the project's costs were cut after an Evansville company offered to collect asphalt from the arena parking lot for free.
City officials want the demolition of the 56-year-old stadium wrapped up by spring, weather permitting.
The stadium is being razed to make way for the new Roberts Park, which is expected to be developed over the next few years.
