Madonna: court dismisses lawsuit over gay rights comments

Posted: Updated:
ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA -

Her publicist says Madonna won't comment on a decision by a Russian court on a case that could have seen her liable for millions of dollars in damages.

Which is probably a good thing, since it was something she said that got her hauled into court to begin with. The plaintiffs claimed Madonna's comments in support of gay rights during a concert in St. Petersburg traumatized minors. But after a one-day hearing, the judge tossed the case.

At times, the proceedings bordered on being a farce. It got so bad that at one point, the judge threatened to boot journalists from the courtroom if they continued to laugh at what was going on inside.
