It's become as much a part of Thanksgiving as turkey and football, but it's all about giving back to the community.
The Drumstick Dash celebrates ten years Thanksgiving morning, with its biggest field ever. It got started at 9:00 am in front of Broad Ripple High School.
Organizers are hoping that up to 17,000 people will take part in either the 2.5- or 4.6-mile run/walk through Broad Ripple.
For many it's the perfect way to start the day, and perhaps run off a fraction of Thanksgiving dinner calories that will be consumed later.
But the real goal is to help others. The Drumstick Dash is the single largest fundraiser for Wheeler Ministries, which provides food, shelter and outreach to the area's homeless.
The non-profit that helps the homeless is looking to raise $575,000 through Thursday's event.
