Donley Minor scored 22 points to lead five other Lamar teammates in double-figures and Donnell Minton hit clutch, late free throws as the Cardinals edged IUPUI 86-82 Tuesday in an NIT Season Tip-Off consolation game.
All five Lamar starters finished in double figures, Stan Brown scoring 12 points and Rhon Mitchell, Amos Wilson and Minton getting 10 apiece. Keilan Blanks came off the bench for Lamar (1-4) to add 12.
IUPUI (2-4), behind 27 points from center Michael Patton and 20 from guard John Hart, led 39-37 at halftime and, after a 7-0 run, 70-61 with 5:59 remaining. But Lamar went on a 15-4 run to lead 76-74 on consecutive layups by Minor.
With the Cardinals leading 80-77 with 0:32 remaining, Minton went to the line three straight times and sank six straight free throws.
For IUPUI, Patton was 11 of 14 from the floor, and Hart 8 of 11.
