National Association of Professional Women Hudson County, NJ Chapter set to host/participate in a number of events including Thanksgiving Dinner for Homeless & Annual Networking Brunch in June.

Members and guests of the NAPW Hudson County, NJ Local Chapter gathered on October 26th for a professional networking meeting. The group of professional women had plenty to discuss since the Chapter has a number of exciting charitable and networking events planned for 2012 through 2013. From feeding the homeless this Thanksgiving to holding its second annual Women’s Networking Brunch on June 8th, the Chapter meeting was brimming with exciting news and events.
Before formerly starting the meeting, members and guests had refreshments and networked to build on how they could help one another. NAPW Hudson County, NJ Local Chapter President LaTrenda Ross then kicked off the event by enthusiastically welcoming the attendees, who included one new member RoseAnn Purdy and two new guests Sazzn Landa and Lori Wilson. After reading aloud the Chapter’s Mission Statement, LaTrenda addressed the crowd.
“The NAPW Hudson County Chapter is a shining example of women working together for their Chapter, its members, guests, and the community,” she said. “We are thriving and doing tremendously and we are enthusiastic about working not only on our events this year but on our 2013 projects, as well!”
Before a discussion ensued about upcoming events, The Chapter President announced the need to fill three Chapter Board positions: President and Vice President Event Coordinators; Secretary, and Photographer/Media Relations Specialist.
Chapter members and guests then began to brainstorm and discuss potential projects including an event to be held January 12th, the Hudson County Chapter’s ‘Beautiful Inside and Out Spa Makeover Day’ for the Hoboken Homeless Shelter Women’s Group.
“The planning stages are underway for this charitable endeavor. Delores Daniels, our acting President Events Planner, is hard at work coordinating this event,” said LaTrenda.
Members and guests were asked to get involved by donating their unwanted and unused makeup that perhaps they don’t need or is the wrong color, and to ask relatives, friends, places they shop, and makeup artists to donate their makeup to give to the women as gifts at this upcoming event.
This past June, the Hudson County, NJ Local Chapter honored four women at its first Women’s Networking Brunch. Monique Smith, Owner of the hair salon Monique Techniques, was one of the women honored. Every year, her salon hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner for the Homeless and she asked members and guests for their help in making the event a success. The response from the group was overwhelming; five women signed up to participate. More volunteers are always welcome. The hours are anywhere from 9:00am to 2:00pm, Thursday, November 22nd. This includes setting up and serving dinner.
“We also discussed our second Women’s Networking Brunch that will be held next year on June 8th. We talked about honoring six rather than four women,” said LaTrenda.
The Chapter President said next year’s event needs a theme and also asked members and guests to suggest names for the honorees.
“For our Women’s Networking Brunch, we want to honor extraordinary women who are working hard to improve her own life and/or the lives of women, children, and her community,” said LaTrenda.
The Chapter is also planning two events in April 2013 including the first-ever ‘Yoga and Mediation Mind, Body, and Soul Member and Guest Day’ as well as the Chapter’s 2nd Annual Back to School Backpack Drive.
“This year, our Backpack Drive was a huge success and we need to make it bigger by having a goal of collecting 150 backpacks to distribute to two or three nonprofit organizations,” said LaTrenda. “The backpacks will go to children in Pre-K through eighth grade.”
The Chapter President had one more request of the members and guests and wanted to discuss something that had been on her mind. She smiled and asked the women to put on their thinking caps for the possibility to fit one more important event into the Chapter’s nearly-filled calendar.
“I would love to hold a Girls’ Conference, an event where the Hudson County Chapter could help to empower young girls,” said LaTrenda. “It doesn’t have to be large, just something to get us started with our young women in the community.”
As always, the professional women of the Hudson County Chapter have made some remarkable accomplishments and the Chapter President shared with members and guests some exciting news about Chapter member Angela McKnight.
“Congratulations to Angela McKnight, Executive Director/Founder of AngelaCARES, Inc., on her one year anniversary,” announced LaTrenda.

LaTrenda also announced that to show solidarity and promote the Hudson County Chapter, the Chapter is planning to have Chapter T-shirts available to members and guests.
“There is nothing like having togetherness to attract members and guests and to let people know about our Chapter and the wonderful things we are doing,” said the Chapter President. “I am urging all members and guests who would like to purchase a Chapter T-shirt to send in your order to angelamcknight(at)gmail.com, including an extra $2.00 to offset the (logo) one-time set up fee.”
Prices for the T-shirts, which may be customized with a member’s name, are as follows and payments will be collected at the next Chapter meeting: $25 to create the template (logo) one time set up fee; $8 per each T-shirt (includes a T-shirt and the printing of a logo on the shirt); $15 per T-shirt (includes a T-shirt, printing of logo, and customized name).
Lastly, the meeting ended with all extending their best wishes to members who were celebrating their birthdays.
“How can we end a Hudson County Local Chapter meeting without celebrating birthdays? Happy Birthday to Margaret Laborde and Jeannie Adarraga!” said LaTrenda. “Our door prize raffle, a $20 Visa gift card, was won by no other than Jeannie Adarraga our birthday girl. Congratulations to all!
Members and guests in attendance were Rev. Pamela Loving-Felts, Angela Mcknight, Betty Rentas, Jyoti Nebhnani, Glenda Salley Perkins, Dolores Daniels, Eboney Rouse, Jeannie Adarraga, and Chiffon Abney.
