Online shopping gives alternative to Black Friday craze

INDIANAPOLIS -

Black Friday deals are just days away, but you must do your homework to get the most bang for your buck.

Laurie and her daughter are picking up her Christmas gift at Best Buy. Laurie ordered it online early to avoid long lines and crowds on Black Friday, one of the busiest days of the holiday shopping season.

"It's an early Christmas present, actually, and we are picking it up today here at Best Buy," Laurie said.

We compared the online price of other electronics for your family, like a 40" Samsung LED flat screen television. You can get it at Amazon.com for $548. The same model is advertised at Target for only $429, more than $100 cheaper.

"It's easier to compare prices online than it is to go to different stores and physically compare and look for something," Laurie said.

We also compared store to online prices on a 32-gigabyte Nintendo Wii U console. It's yours for $459.99 at Amazon.com, but the same item is only $349.99 at some electronic stores.

If you want to gift mom with a new tablet this Christmas, the Black Friday price on an eight-gigabyte Galaxy 2 tablet at Best Buy is $179.99. Online at Amazon.com, the price is $262.72.

You'll probably never find Laurie in the Black Friday shopping crowds, especially since she can take advantage of free shipping offers.

"I would never go out shopping on Black Friday. It's too crazy," she said.

You can also save money on reputable reseller websites like eBay and Craigslist, but remember those items often won't have your new item warranties.
