INDIANAPOLIS -

The maker of Wonder Bread, Twinkies and Hostess cupcakes says it will have to close its doors permanently if striking workers don't return to work by Thursday.

Officials with Hostess say it will ask a US bankruptcy judge in New York for permission to liquidate the entire company unless enough of its striking employees return to work by the end of the day today.

Company officials say if the motion is granted Hostess would begin to cease operations as soon as November 20th.

Workers are protesting an eight percent across-the-board pay cut next year and the closing of bakeries in Seattle, St. Louis and Cincinnati.

Hostess says it doesn't have the financial resources to survive the strike.

Hostess has about 18,000 employees including more than 800 in Indiana. The company has bakeries in Indianapolis and Columbus.
