Cummins starts layoffs at Indiana headquarters

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS -

Engine maker Cummins Inc. has started laying off some workers from its central Indiana headquarters although the company isn't providing details.

Those layoffs are part of the Columbus-based company's plan to up to 1,500 jobs worldwide by year's end.

The Republic reports layoff notices have been delivered this week to professional staff in Columbus after announcing last month that about 150 workers would be laid off from its factories in Columbus and Seymour.

Cummins spokesman Jon Mills says the white-collar job cuts are being decided as the company works through projects and priorities. Mills said Cummins employees should know the full extent of the layoffs by mid-December.

The company has about 7,700 Indiana employees among its some 47,000 staffers worldwide.
