Comedy and Hurricane Sandy

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK -

A killer storm that has left millions without power is no laughing matter. Or is it?

It's a little bit of both at New York City comedy clubs - as the Big Apple struggles to get back on its feet after the superstorm. Comedians have been doing their thing at clubs - and not even the storm is off limits.

In one case, generators were brought in to light up one club and a packed house showed up to hear comedians riff on the storm. One, Dave Attell said that after the storm, "It was dark. Toilets were backing up. ... It was pretty much like it always was."

The head of one comedy club says the challenge for comedians is the same as it is for any touchy subject - don't ignore it, but don't make people feel worse about it.

Some of those attended the shows thanked the comedians for taking their minds off the tragedy, at least for a little while.
