Brownsburg firefighter dies of cancer

A Brownsburg firefighter died Saturday after a battle with cancer.

David Schanz II joined the Brownsburg Fire Territory in 2006. His father and grandfather both retired from the Indianapolis Fire Department.

Schanz, 34, is the first active duty firefighter to die in Brownsburg. He will receive a firefighter's funeral on Wednesday (November 14). Showing will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a mass at noon at St. Michael's at 3354 W. 30th Street in Indianapolis.

Schanz will be buried at Washington Park North Cemetery on Kessler Boulevard West Drive in Indianapolis. The procession will drive past Station 133, where Schanz was stationed, for his last call before arriving at the cemetery.
