INDIANAPOLIS -
Authorities say some evacuees from a south side Indianapolis neighborhood have taken pets with them but other animals are running loose there.
The explosion Saturday night damaged or destroyed more than 30 homes, and residents have been evacuated.
Indianapolis Metro Police Sgt. Christian Nielsen says several animals are displaced and at large. He says Animal Control was called in Sunday to round them up and will try to reunite them with their owners.
Several people were evacuated to a nearby school and took their pets with them.
Indianapolis Fire Department spokeswoman Angela Hiestand says the city's south side animal shelter will board pets for affected residents for 10 days free of charge.
