Sad news to report about a long time Indianapolis radio personality: WIBC's Big John Gillis died at his home Friday night.

A family spokesman told WIBC Gillis had been dealing with some breathing problems over the last couple of weeks and his body just shut down. Gillis joined the WIBC team in 1968. He started reporting traffic in 1980.

He retired in 2007.

Big John Gillis was 65 years-old. Funeral arrangements are pending.

The family is requesting that contributions should be made to the Indiana University School of Broadcasting, in lieu of flowers.
