Police apprehend man who assaulted officer

INDIANAPOLIS -

Police have apprehended a man who fled after assaulting a police officer on the northeast side.

Officers are searching the area from 82nd Street and Dean Road north to Interstate 465 in the Castleton area. They say a white male in his early 20s committed battery on a police officer Friday evening.

The man, described as 5'6"-5'9" tall, weighing 150 pounds, was last seen on a sandbar on the White River. He is wearing a black shirt and black pants.

Police used a helicopter and K-9 officers to attempt to locate the suspect. He was taken into custody without incident.

The officer was not seriously injured in the assault.
