An Indiana Marine who suffered a brain injury in a 2008 firefight in Afghanistan has been honored with a Purple Heart he initially didn't want.

Capt. E. Markus Trouerbach received his Purple Heart during a Friday ceremony at Grissom Air Reserve Base as his wife and fellow Marines looked on.

The 44-year-old Trouerbach told the Kokomo Tribune he called a military officer "a bunch of names" when he was approached about receiving the honor shortly after being wounded in 2008 Afghanistan.

While he didn't want the honor, other servicemen weren't as willing to let his record of service go. His Purple Heart was approved in August.

Brig. Gen. Roger Machut, the commanding general of the 4th Marine Corps Logistics Group, Presented the medal to Trouerbach on Friday.
