The Indiana attorney general's office is warning Hoosiers to watch out for scammers who may try to take advantage of them in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.
The office urges residents to beware of people who claim to work for cable television companies or Internet service providers who phone and ask for bank account information so they can give them a billing credit due to outages caused by the storm. Such requests are often covers for identity theft or fraudulent bank withdrawals.
The attorney general's office says consumers should never give their account information out over the phone unless the consumer initiates the call.
The agency also warns the public to verify that relief organizations are reputable before making any donations to help victims of widespread damage and flooding.
