NOBLESVILLE -

A man in a wheelchair was able to wake his son and escape his burning house early Wednesday morning.

Noblesville Fire crews responded to the call in the 400 block of James Drive around 2:30 a.m.  That call came from the OnStar system in the man's van.

Firemen on the scene told Eyewitness News the man was sleeping when his blinds fell and woke him.  He climbed out of bed and into his wheelchair, yelling to wake his son at the same time.

The two made their way to the garage, where they pulled out the van and made the emergency call.

Firefighters needed about a half hour to extinguish the fire that had spread through the attic of the one-story house located in a neighborhood just south of Crownland Cemetery.
