ROMNEY -

Candidates for political office sometimes count on name recognition to carry them to victory. For voters in a small Tippecanoe County town, that could mean a lot in this year's presidential election.

Romney, Indiana is a typical small Indiana town. It is the home of Romney Toy Shop, Romney Hardware, The Romney Garage and the Romney post office.

But one thing you won't find in the town is a political yard sign.

"I don't know. I guess no one has come to put them up," said resident Tammy Brummett.

Maybe with all of the town's signs, they don't feel as though an additional sign is needed. Brummett has cut hair at Shear Heaven in Romney for 14 years.

"I don't believe in abortion and that is one of the reasons I support Mitt Romney," she said.

Maybe it's not surprising that it's a little difficult to find a Democrat in Romney, Indiana, but it's a surprise that all through the town, there isn't one political yard sign.

There is a sign in front of the Romney Café, but it is only to inform customers that it has changed to Shellie's Café.

"This town is more split up than you can imagine," said resident Scott Huddleston.

"Choice of two evils, the way I look at it. Wish they had an independent running. If Mickey Mouse were running, I would vote for him," said Reggie Carlton.

Huddleston comes to the café for the pork tenderloin, but he also likes Romney.

"The man runs companies. The government is a company," he said.

But shouldn't the Republican candidate for president come to the town that shares his name?

"You would think so. I'm sure population has something to do with it," said .

Romney's population is listed at 786 residents.
