Indiana to post school grades some call too complex

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

State education officials are scheduled next week to release the results of Indiana's A-to-F public school ranking system under new rules that have drawn complaints that they're too complex for schools and parents to understand.

The State Board of Education is scheduled to approve the grades Wednesday.

Last year the grades were released in August. This year's grades were supposed to be released Oct. 10, but several school districts filed appeals and the release was postponed.

The new rules have become an issue in Republican state Superintendent Tony Bennett's re-election campaign.

Democrat Glenda Ritz tells The Journal Gazette of Fort Wayne that Bennett has created a system that his own department can't understand.

Bennett says his goal is to create a clear picture of schools' performance.
