Owner rejects bids for historic site

Posted: Updated:
ROCKVILLE -

The owner of western Indiana historic site Billie Creek Village has decided to not sell it to any of the top bidders from last week's auction.

Owner Charlie Cooper says he wants to keep the living-history center along U.S. 36 near Rockville together and not split up into three parcels.

The Tribune-Star reports no bids were made at the auction for the entire 70-acre site, while top bids were $250,000 for the village, $280,000 for its adjourning farmland and $10,000 for the parking lot area.

Cooper says he's been approached by people interested in keeping the village open and believes he'll get a deal worked out.

The 81-year-old Cooper says he's simply too old to keep running the village that he bought four years ago it faced financial struggles.
