Police say a man was fatally shot after breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment on the west side of Indianapolis.
The man was shot at Wyckford Commons Apartments early Friday as he tried to break in. Police say children were in the apartment at the time, but they did not witness the shooting.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the scene around 6:00 am to investigate a burglary in progress with a person possibly shot.
When officers arrived, they found a deceased male in the apartment. Police have not released his identity pending notification of relatives.
According to police, the residents of the apartment knew the man breaking in, and there was a restraining order against him from a January incident. A woman and man, along with four children, were in the apartment at the time of the shooting.
