INDIANAPOLIS -

Police are investigating a fatal accident on the southeast side of Indianapolis Thursday night.

Officers arrived to the scene in the 1900 block of South Emerson Avenue around 10 p.m. to find a motorcyclist critically injured. That victim, a male whose identity has not yet been released, was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Police believe a Volkswagen Jetta was stopped in traffic when the motorcycle crashed into it from behind. Investigators do not believe the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

The 27-year-old driver of the Jetta submitted to a blood draw to test for intoxicants, per procedure, but police do not believe alcohol contributed to the crash.

Traffic is expected to be restricted in the area of the collision for several hours.
