INDIANAPOLIS -
An alleged gang member was found guilty Wednesday in a June 2011 east side murder.
Anthony Shockley was found guilty of murder and attempted robbery in the murder of Clayton Battice. According to proseuctors, Shockley and two others tried to rob Battice outside of his home after his shift at the Wonder Bread factory on June 5, 2011. Battice was shot five times and died at the scene.
The case was unsolved until Shockley and 14 other alleged Pop It Off Boyz gang members were arrested. Police found evidence leading to charges of murder against Shockley. He also faces other pending charges for his alleged involvement in the gang, and a jury trial for those charges is scheduled for Dec. 17.
Prosecutor Terry Curry said Battice was "an innocent victim of a senseless crime" and that the community should not minimize the presence of gang activity.
Shockley's sentencing hearing is set for Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. in Criminal Court 2.
