Part of Hoosier Heartland Highway traffic-ready

Posted: Updated:
DELPHI -

The first section of the Hoosier Heartland Industrial Corridor is ready for traffic.

Gov. Mitch Daniels joined other officials for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday for a 12-mile stretch of Indiana 25 between Interstate 65 in Lafayette and U.S. 421 in Delphi. It was expected to open to traffic Wednesday night.

The Indiana Department of Transportation says three additional sections between Delphi and Logansport are due to open to traffic by the end of next year, creating a 36-mile, four-lane, limited-access divided highway between Lafayette and Logansport. When completed, it will create a four-lane highway between Lafayette and Fort Wayne, where it will connect to the U.S. 24 segment known as the Fort-to-Port corridor to Toledo, Ohio.
