Finding your polling place

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

With only two weeks left before the election, finding your polling place this year may be a little more challenging.

Marion County voters who don't plan ahead may find themselves in the wrong voting place on election day. One third of the county's polling places have changed so people who voted in May could be voting in different location in November.

Clerk Beth White said about 30-percent of Marion County voters will be going to a different polling place. "Since the primary, we estimate 32 precincts will vote in a different place," White said. "Some of those will be co-located with other precincts. Some will be in a completely different place."

In addition to public service announcements, White is sending post cards to voters telling them where to vote.

Early voters don't have to worry. Record numbers of them, more than in 2008, are casting ballots at the City-County Building.

Election officials want voters thinking and planning now to avoid confusion and lines on election day.

"If they haven't voted since 2008," according to White, "it's really likely their precinct has changed. If they haven't voted since 2011, it may be true. Or, as likely as not, they'll be in a different place. So you need to check."

Clicking on the Clerk's website will help a voter located their new polling place.
