MUNCIE -

An eastern Indiana city's preservation effort is the subject of one of the movies being shown at this year's Heartland Film Festival.

About 70 Ball State University students produced the 26-minute documentary, "Stories and Legends: Historic Preservation in Muncie, Indiana."

The Star Press reports the film showcases historic homes, cemeteries and other sites

One featured site was the former Whitney Hospital, which was turned into apartments, then left vacant. The film was completed in April, and the hospital burned in May.

The film was one of 108 chosen for the festival, which runs through Saturday in Indianapolis.

The documentary is part of a project that began in 2011 which now includes an online museum at www.historicmuncie.org.
