Indiana State defeats Western Illinois 23-7

Each side scored from recovering fumbles in the end zone, but it was Indiana State that would win the game, beating Western Illinois 23-7 on Saturday night.

In the first half, the Sycamores got touchdowns from a 14-yard run by Richie Dyer and a 46-yard run by Shakir Bell. Defensive back Mark Sewall recovered the fumble in the end zone, and Tanner Fritschle added the extra point in the fourth quarter.

Mike Perish was 12 of 18 for 99 yards for Indiana State (6-2, 4-1 Missouri Valley).

Western Illinois (3-4, 1-3 Missouri Valley) was scoreless in the first half.

The only points for the Leathernecks came after David McDaniel recovered a fumble in the end zone in the third quarter, followed with a kick by Pat Smith. Wil Lunt was 4 of 19 for 25 yards.

Indiana State had 16 first downs; Western Illinois had 5.
