INDIANAPOLIS -
Some Hoosiers took some very important first steps to changing their lives Saturday. It was the third commencement ceremony for Western Governors University, Indiana's online non-profit university.
More than 300 graduates were honored at the Indiana Convention Center. Many of today's graduates tell us they enrolled to start a better life and career for themselves and their families.
WGU Graduate Rachel Overberg says, "When I started back to school, I was newly divorced, a single mom and survivor of domestic violence. I wanted to make sure my son had a good life growing up. We started off in a home with a bed and two lawn chairs, and even though I had a full-time job, I noticed that industry was changing. I needed to go back to college."
Graduate Warren Guess says he went back to school to provide more opportunities for his family.
"We had a little boy in 2009 and in 2010 I decided the associate's degree from Sinclair (Community College) wasn't going to be enough and I needed to take it a step further," says Guess.
Students can start classes on the first of any month.
