INDIANAPOLIS -

Indianapolis Firefighters rescued 40-year-old, Al Curtis Williams, from the White River after passers-by heard him yelling for help.

According to IFD, three men who live in the area, were walking along  the Washington Street bridge at about 9pm when they heard someone calling for help.

After a few minutes, they found Williams lying along the river in White River State Park.

He was partly in the cold water, and partly on a rocky patch of land.

IFD divers had a hard time reaching Williams.  They set up a rope system over the railing and went down the 30-foot wall.  After rescuing Williams, IFD Firefighters gave him first aid. He was put in the boat and taken to the opposite bank of the river where medics were waiting.

Williams was taken to Wishard hospital in critical condition.

He told Medics that he "blacked out" and fell over the railing.
