Voters take advantage of early voting

INDIANAPOLIS -

The November election is now less than three weeks away and more than three-million Americans have already cast ballots. Seven thousand eight hundred votes have already been cast in Marion County.

Lines formed at the City-County Building Saturday as voters took advantage of weekend early voting hours.

As the candidates continue to battle it out voters are already making their decision.

Tara Davis said, "Because I want things to change. And I want better. A better future for my grandchildren and me too."

Early voting started last week but now voters have the option of making their voices heard on the weekend.

"If you think 6 to 6 on election day is not going to work for you I really encourage you to come down here, vote early," said Marion County Clerk Beth White.

WIth just 17 days until election day a record number of people have cast their ballot early.

White explained, "We're up about 17 percent overall from 2008 which is terrific."

This is the first time Lindsay Gay has been able to vote.

"I think it's really important for younger people to be involved in politics because what's happening now is going to effect us down the road," said Gay.

Davis says she wont be able to vote November 6th so the early voting option insured she had her chance, "It helps a lot for me to do this and that's why I came down here early."

Most of the people who take advantage of early voting do so out of convenience.

Freda said, "I work and I just didn't want to be late for work that morning."

Voting has special meaning to Pravhakar Kaduri who is a naturalized citizen from India, "As a recent citizen I think that it's very important to exercise my right and have a say in the future of the country."

Now that his civic duty is done, he must wait to see what happens next

"Yep and now I am looking forward to the count on November 6th," said Kaduri.
