Pit Bull owners: be vigilant during "Kill a Pit Bull Night"

Posted: Updated:
FORT WAYNE -

Animal control officials in Fort Wayne are cautioning pet owners to be extra vigilant with their dogs and cats on Halloween night after a posting on the Internet designated Oct. 31 as "Kill a Pit Bull Night."

Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control says in a statement issued Thursday that residents have been phoning the shelter expressing concern over the posting.

Officials say they don't know if the suggestion is a hoax or a real attempt to encourage violence toward animals.

The agency is urging pet owners to carefully supervise their pets that are outside for any period of time and to report any suspicious human behavior to authorities.

Officials say pets will be safest if they are kept inside the house.
