Indiana cases of fungal meningitis rise to 35

INDIANAPOLIS -

The number of fungal meningitis cases linked to injections of a recalled back pain medication has risen to 35 in Indiana.

The Indiana State Department of Health reported one new case Friday. Two Indiana patients have died.

The state agency has released no details about the two deaths or the clinics they're linked to. Six Indiana clinics received the tainted steroids.

Two Indiana law firms on Friday filed a lawsuit related to the outbreak on behalf of a Columbus woman who says she received three steroid injections at Wellspring Pain Solutions in Columbus.

The Indianapolis Star reports 47-year-old Natalie Copass hasn't been diagnosed with fungal meningitis, but her attorneys say she is showing symptoms.

The tainted steroids were produced by the New England Compounding Center of Framingham, Mass.
