Tyler Perry: this isn't a Medea movie

Posted: Updated:
LOS ANGELES -

Tyler Perry acknowledges he may lose some of the grandmothers who come out after church with his new film, "Alex Cross."

Perry says the people who are used to seeing him in "Medea" comedies might be surprised he's in a thriller. He just wants to try new things.

It meant he had to dig deep emotionally to tap into feelings of anger and revenge, like from past relationships and childhood situations.

Perry says that kind of thing is not in his nature but everyone has those feelings and he had to find a way to tap into it.

"Alex Cross" opens today.
