INDIANAPOLIS -

The grandson of a prominent founder of the American Legion has been named chairman of the organization's 100th anniversary observance honorary committee.

Ted Roosevelt IV of New York, a managing director for Barclays Capital Corp., has been named chairman of the committee. His grandfather, Lt. Col. Teddy Roosevelt Jr., saw the need for an organization to help World War I veterans returning home and started the federal corporation that was chartered by Congress in 1919. The American Legion is headquartered in Indianapolis.

The American Legion is planning major celebrations scheduled for its 2018 and 2019 national conventions in Minneapolis and Indianapolis.

The American Legion has 2.4 million members and more than 13,000 posts worldwide.
